Isekai is a genre that has grown in popularity exponentially in the last decade. A genre with infinite possibilities and themes to explore. Among them is the famous That time I was reincarnated into a slime. Did it leave you wanting more? Don’t worry! Because today we bring you 5 recommendations of series that you would love if you adored this anime.

5. LOG HORIZON

The story begins when 30,000 Japanese gamers end up trapped in the online fantasy world Elder Tale. What was once an escape from the real world is now all the reality they know. Shiroe, the protagonist, tries to survive as best he can in this world with his old friend Naotsugu and the beautiful assassin Akatsuki.
Together they will explore this new world in a great adventure, learning about their new reality. It’s not the great anime of the century, but it’s light enough to watch without a super intricate plot and complicated elements. In the same style as Slime, much of this anime is about adapting to a new life.
4. KONOSUBA

In KonoSuba, Kazuma Satou dies way too early, but then he is greeted by a goddess on his way to the “afterlife”. But this goddess just laughs at him because of his pathetic previous life and final useless death. The goddess turns out to be not so bad and decides to grant him a wish. She offers him to continue his way or be reincarnated into a parallel world with videogame resembling elements. He accepts the reincarnation, but in revenge, the young man wishes the goddess to suffer the same fate as him. In the end, the goddess turns out to be rather clumsy and useless at anything but making whoever watches the anime laugh.
I have to admit that for a long time, I underestimated this anime. But as Isekai, it is a fantastic comedic gem. This anime is one of the pioneers of the isekai genre, particularly those with OP protagonists. It was an innovative anime actually, that’s why it is an absolutely must-watch!
3. RE: ZERO

This series is about Subaru Natsuki, an ordinary high school student who lives a rather unhealthy life but, one day, after leaving a mini market, he is transported to a world of swords and sorcery. There, expecting all sorts of clichés of the genre he knows from the fiction of his world, he is bailed out of a predicament by a beautiful half-Elf named Emilia. To return the favor, Subaru will play the hero and try to help her recover an emblem that has been stolen from her, but neither of them will know a terrible fate that awaits them, as they both end up being killed. Only then, Subaru discovers that he has the power to rewind his own death to an earlier point in his life, remembering everything that happened before his death.
This anime is one of the best-known Isekais, and not for nothing. Perhaps it offers a different idea of reincarnation than Slime. But its dark fantasy theme is gripping.
2. OVERLORD

In the year 2126, it is decided to discontinue the MMORPG Yggdrasil. It has been the most popular game for the last twelve years but has fallen into oblivion in recent times. On the day the game servers were to be closed, Momonga, leader of the Ainz Ooal Gown guild, once credited as one of the strongest guilds in the game, decides to stay online until the game is closed as a farewell to that special place for him.
After the time the servers are closed, Momonga discovers that impressive and mysterious things have happened. He is still in the Great Tomb of Nazarick, which is the base and home of the Ainz Ooal Gown guild. He has also actually become his character with all the powers and abilities that entails, the NPCs that serve him are now sentient beings, and the great tomb is no longer in the swamps of Yggdrasil but has been sent to a fantasy world where magic and mystical creatures exist.
Being part of that initial wave of Isekai anime set in fantasy worlds with RPG elements that saw the light shortly after Sword Art Online rose to fame and that currently have somewhat saturated the anime world with many series not precisely all good, Overlord was a title that for this very reason I did not bother to see at the time. Still, recently I gave it a chance, finding in it, to my surprise, a reasonably entertaining title to follow, and that in general has left me a good taste in my mouth.
1. TANYA SAGA OF EVIL

Tanya Degurechaff has the appearance of an innocent little girl. However, she is a high-ranking Japanese executive who has reincarnated in a magical alternate world in an alt World War I-like era in the body of a little girl after fighting with a mysterious being, “X” who claims to be God. Tanya is born an orphan and stays in an orphanage for the first years of her life until she is given the opportunity to take a magic detection test. Upon learning of the girl’s outstanding abilities in this field, she is taken out of the orphanage and recruited by the army of the country she lives in the so-called Empire. As time goes by, Tanya’s goal will be to live a quiet life in this new world, but things will not turn out as she expects. Since her talent will lead her to be promoted in the army faster than she expected and being put in the front line as a key piece of the war will be inevitable.
Youjo Senki turned out to be, for my liking, a tremendously enjoyable series and one of my favorites of its season and of the year in which it was broadcasted. Being in general, a simple but very entertaining work to watch, which manages to stand out due to its main character’s tremendous charisma.
